General information
|
|
Tripura is the state located in the North Eastern part of India. Before 1949, Tripura was an independent Kingdom of Tripuri which was later included with India on 15th October 1949. The traditional belief of the state says that the name of the state has originated from ‘Tripura Sundari’, the name of the presiding deity of the region. In general the presumption about the origin is that the name has been derived from the word ‘Tuipra’ meaning a land adjoining the water. Magnificent palaces built by Maharajas who ruled the place, rock cut carvings, temples, wild life sanctuaries, lakes and the Jampui Hill (the highest hill range in the state) are the interesting aspects of the state that attract the tourists across the globe. Handicraft items made by the ethnic group using bamboo and cane are the specialties of the region.
