Pondicherry is a Union Territory located in the southeastern part of the country. The place is also called as the ‘French Riviera of the East’. The Union Territory still has Tamil speaking residents with French passport whose ancestors were working with the French Government and wanted to remain as French during independence. Pondicherry was relieved from the control of the French government in the year 1948. French and Tamil are the official languages of Pondicherry. Both French and Tamil are equally spoken here. Pondicherry is also a tourist spot famous for its beaches. With the increased number of tourists, the number of hotels and restaurants in Pondicherry has also increased.
