Himachal Pradesh is a hilly Indian state located in the North West. The state was previously called as Punjab Hill States. It is a small state with Shimla as its capital. The major rivers of the state are Ravi, Sutlej, Chenab, Yamuna and Beas. In 1956, Himachal Pradesh was declared as a Union Territory with only six hill states. Later the region expanded with the inclusion of some hilly stations from Punjab and was again declared as a state in 1971. The abundance of perennial rivers has helped out Haryana in the production of hydro-electric power. The state is well known for its apples. The major source of income of the state is the apple sales and the income generated through the tourism industry.
